Freedom of opinion and censorship of art

The importance of culture, the free expression of thought and freedom of art are principles established by the Italian Constitution. We examine how the censorship of artistic expressions has progressively weakened within the field of intervention in Italy since the 1970s, while censorship is still present in many countries with totalitarian regimes worldwide, effectively limiting the expressive potential of art.

Freedom of religion and right to satire

The exercise of the right to satire, linked to the more general freedom of expression of thought enshrined in Article 21 of the Italian Constitution, often leads to conflict between opposing constitutional values. It must be kept in mind, however, that the satire of current events is also an expression of that right to news strongly protected by jurisprudence, especially when the public interest in information is evident, even if carried out in satire.

Fair trial and punishment as show business

Articles 3, 6 and 7 of the European Convention on Human Rights form the linchpin of a justice that respects human rights: from fair trial to punishment that does not degrade the person.
One of the topical issues is the exaggerated publicity of criminal jurisdiction, from trial to punishment.
