On the occasion of **Darwin Day**, the celebration in honour of Charles Darwin that is held every year on the anniversary of his birth, **Patrizio Roversi**, **Telmo Pievani** and **Guido Barbujani** recount Darwin’s voyages on the Beagle and those on the Adriatica, as shown on the Velisti per caso television show, to reflect on the consequences of man’s impacts on nature. **Alice Fanti** of CEFA presents possible solutions to mitigate the consequences of desertification in Africa.
