CUBO offers a three-meeting educational module on human space exploration, from the beginning of the Space Race to life in space aboard the International Space Station and the nearest frontiers to which we can realistically aspire. A real journey into space as an opportunity to look into topics in astronomical geography, physics, chemistry, engineering, medicine, botany and climate.

In collaboration with Luca Perri

The Space Race

  • Tuesday 13 February 2024 at 10:00 - 12:00

Our exploration of space began when we still did not know the laws of dynamics that would allow a rocket to move in a vacuum, when our knowledge of atmospheric composition, magnetosphere and radiation was practically non-existent. Not to mention what we (didn't) know about the Moon. Yet, despite everything, humanity set foot on the Moon, learning a lot and developing much of the technology we use in our daily lives.

The era of space stations

  • Tuesday 20 February 2024 at 10:00 - 12:00

If travelling in space is challenging, living there permanently is a real feat. For decades, by constructing a series of space stations, human beings have succeeded - amidst triumphs and failures - in carrying out thousands of experiments in physics, chemistry, engineering, medicine, psychology, ethology, botany, biology and even politics and diplomacy, which has meant that for over 23 years humanity has no longer lived altogether on the earth's surface.

The future of human exploration

  • Tuesday 27 February 2024 at 10:00 - 12:00

The so-called Space Economy sector was worth just under USD 400 billion in 2022 and its value will be almost USD 650 billion in 2030 and USD 1 trillion in 2040.
But, amidst promises and hopes, what can humanity aspire to over the next few decades?
