Create a soundtrack using web apps 01 March – 31 May 2021
CUBO offers six events dedicated to music production using collaborative web tools and explores the basics of electronic music production through workshops and computers, with participants working alone, in pairs or in groups.
The course, for 14to 16 year-olds, focuses on the relationship between music and images using an innovative workshop model that has rarely been seen before, particularly in eduation aimed at young adults.With Roberto Agostini and Leo Izzo.
Writing music in Noteflight

Noteflight: overview of the use of the web app and online sharing and cooperation options. The course illustrates some simple strategies on how to compose using musical notation. How to develop a short melody by making small changes. Short introduction on how to download and export a MIDI file.
Producing music with DAW

Soundtrap: overview of the web app and illustration of techniques for using loops, recording and sharing a project. Participants are asked to compose short musical pieces using the loops offered by Soundtrap, enhancing them with vocals or musical elements they have recorded themselves. Collaboration and integration using Noteflight.
The soundtrack: from listening to composition

This module analyses the scores of sci-fi and fantasy films, highlighting key principles such as transition, variations and minimalist style. Presentation of the course objective: composing a score to accompany scenes of the moon landing.
Perfecting the techniques

Soundtrap: details on the use of incorporated features (piano roll and beatbox), how to link up a MIDI keyboard and how to connect a musical instrument. The teacher helps the participants compose music, offering comments and advice or intervening directly in the audio project.
In the studio 1

Workshop activities. Participants continue working on their audio projects, supported by the teacher who may intervene in their audio projects and suggest improvements.
In the studio 2

Workshop activities. The teacher gives the participants the final instructions to finish their work themselves to produce the final audio track. Finally, participants learn how to effectively synchronise sound and images.

Final result of the workshop: a short video in which the visual sequences of the Apollo 11 mission are accompanied by the music composed by the participants.
