Podcast production course 10 November – 01 December 2023
The popularity of podcasts is becoming increasingly more central and pervasive in the age of social media, as listening to and using them has now become a communication channel that enables new perspectives on the world through unprecedented means of expression. The course aims to provide an introduction to the main methodologies for creating a podcast, audio editing and design for those wishing to take their first steps in this field as self-taught. Each session is divided into a theory part, followed by practical examples and classroom exercises.

First steps

After the presentation of the various podcast categories and the programming phases that follow the concept, writing, recording, editing and promotion, a film documenting the making of a podcast will be screened. A topic will be chosen for the participants to start working on, with the aim of producing a pilot episode.
The secrets of editing

The basic functions of Audacity will be explained: cutting, noise reduction, adding backing tracks, fades and vocal distortions. An initial in-class exercise will be carried out in which participants will listen to audios in need of post-production and will continue with project design and writing.
The mixer: a melting pot for of voices

A demonstration will be given of how a mixer and all its components work: channels, cables, headphones, microphones, volumes. The platforms where jingles and music can be legally downloaded will be presented. Part of the lesson will be dedicated to SIAE (Italian Authors and Publishers Society) regulations.
The finalisation

Participants will be assisted in the post-production of pilot episodes of the various podcasts they have worked on and these will be presented in class. We will also focus on how to promote a podcast, where and how to post it.
