UnipolSai Assicurazioni is taking part as a main supporter of the Jubilee of Mercy, the Holy Year proclaimed by Pope Francis, which began on December 8, 2015. UnipolSai is contributing to the implementation of a social solidarity project in mission territories and is providing free insurance coverage to the thousands of volunteers assisting the 30 million pilgrims arriving in Rome.
In an interview with the daily newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Carlo Cimbri, CEO of the Unipol Group, explains the meaning of the initiative:
“We offer protection to people, and the perception of a strong return of the Church among the people and in the outskirts is fully in line with our core culture.” He adds, “Unipol’s tradition, also in light of its history—which we proudly claim—has always shown a strong focus on social issues. This is our way of doing business… Large companies must contribute on an ongoing basis to the growth of the social realities in which they operate, creating wealth.”
When asked “What should the focus be?”, Cimbri replies: “…first and foremost, I think of healthcare, where the social inequality caused by the rollback of public spending must be addressed seriously. In this area, insurance companies can and must do a great deal.”
