For the ninth edition of das – dialoghi artistici sperimentali, CUBO Unipol presents Pointing Nemo, the new solo exhibition by IOCOSE. At its core is NewSpace, the movement that frames the colonization of outer space as the only possible future for humanity. It is an ambitious dream that nonetheless revives and amplifies a colonial logic of exploiting unexplored territories, reinforcing an anthropocentric idea of space conquest. Not coincidentally nicknamed the Billionaire Space Race, the movement crafts seductive narratives to enhance the value of the companies and “astropreneurs" involved, while neglecting scientific research and the collective interest.
IOCOSE reveals the contradictions of the space race and its impact on contemporary imaginaries, economic dynamics, and the planet's ecological balance, dismantling with irony the rhetoric of innovation and the myths of progress.
Pointing Nemo. Oltre lo spazio verso gli abissi links historical works such as Moving Forward (2016) with new productions, including Hic Sunt Dracones and PNT – Point Nemo Tower, premiered for das on the occasion of Art City 2026.
In Porta Europa, IOCOSE introduces visitors to the symbolic and communicative universe of NewSpace, staging its narrative devices and persuasive strategies. The works play with slogans of progress, advertising messages, and the languages of new technologies, exposing the contradictions of innovation rhetoric and revealing how often they amount to empty words.
In Torre, the works highlight the short circuit between technological utopia and the collective imagination. The tower becomes a special observatory, a space dedicated to the “ruins of the future": imaginary maps, devices that predict improbable destinies, traces of space journeys that never took place. It is an evocative path that invites us to look at the future as if it had already passed.
