The great evolutionary journey
Teaching module for senior secondary school students 16—30 January 2024
Evolution is the scientific theory, first outlined by Charles Darwin in 1859, that explains the biological change and diversity we observe around us. Since then, biologists, naturalists and other scientists have contributed to enriching and enhancing its ability to explain reality. In this module, we will try to investigate how our species evolved in the enormous tree of life.
In collaboration with Giacomo Moro Mauretto
The theory of evolution
- Tuesday 16 January 2024 at 10:00 - 12:00
We will try to understand how, thanks to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution published in 1859 and subsequent discoveries, we have come to see the living world with fresh eyes.
The history of life on earth
- Tuesday 23 January 2024 at 10:00 - 12:00
Reconstructing the events of the last four billion years on our planet is a tall order: life appeared very early and has been changing ever since. We will look at our evolutionary history from a different angle, through how and when animals and plants appeared on Earth.
Human evolution in the light of new discoveries
- Tuesday 30 January 2024 at 10:00 - 12:00
Over the past 15 years, with technological innovations in the sequencing of ancient DNA, we have discovered various aspects of our species' past. We will see how, in the light of new discoveries and over the last million years, many human species have coexisted and intermingled.
