Leaves of grass
by Angelo Marinelli, overall winner of the 2018 Arteam Cup Award 16 April - 7 June 2019
CUBO is hosting Leaves of grass, the personal photographic exhibition of Angelo Marinelli, winner of the Arteam Cup Award 2018, the artistic competition of the Arteam Cultural Association aimed at young emerging artists who stand out for the creativity and significant value of their work.
Curated by Matteo Galbiati, the exhibition presents a series of new shots from the series of works of the same name, in which Marinelli highlights the indissoluble bond between man and nature, poetically evoking themes such as silence, mystery, abandonment and the progressive resurgence of natural rhythms.
Thanks to a peculiar layout created by Avola Coop and consisting of real plants, nature becomes a real and absolute protagonist of the exhibition, containing small- and large-format images. In Angelo Marinelli’s works, “Man is poetically reassigned a new role which, no longer primary, makes him aware that he is part of a greater and more inscrutable atavistic balance that he will never be able to completely dominate”. (Matteo Galbiati from Speciale fotografia, Espoarte Digital, March 2019).
The inauguration was accompanied by a live performance by musician, composer and sound designer Luca Longobardi. Longobardi mapped the environmental sounds of the location where the shots were taken and performed “a series of pieces that he composed to complete Marinelli’s work, offering an additional element of analytical interpretation. Together with the other elements of the exhibition, the music builds a complex scenic array that welcomes, surrounds and dresses the eyes and soul of those watching” (From the text in the catalogue by Matteo Galbiati).
The Caravaggio conference, The eternal beauty of the truth, by the curator Matteo Galbiati, linked the topicality of Angelo Marinelli’s work by reviewing the interpretations of the greatest masterpieces of Michelangelo Merisi, aka Caravaggio, highlighting the innovation, upheaval and admiration that they aroused in their time. A journey of rediscovery in the allure of the work of an ancient master who can still amaze and evoke deep emotion beyond all history, beyond all temporality.
The exhibition project has been enriched in the CUBO App, an ad hoc multimedia application that enables intuitive and independent expansion of the contents of the exhibition – available on Apple Store and Google Play.
