Lights of Jazz

27 February – 23 April 2024

CUBO in Torre Unipol – Via Larga, 8 Bologna
27 Feb 2024 - 23 Apr 2024

A journey between music and emotions, between cultures and traditions, immersed in new sounds that have deep roots in jazz.

Three dates tell us of journeys between experimentation and intense ties to traditional instruments, one music that leaves room for siren voices, African rhythms and Latin sounds.

In collaboration with Bologna Jazz Festival.

Vanessa Tagliabue Yorke "Princess of the Night"

  • Tuesday 27 February 2024 at 21:00 - 22:30

The intense and velvety voice of **Vanessa Tagliabue Yorke** intertwining with the piano textures of **Giulio Scaramella** draws a clear path, effortlessly followed due to its composition of energy, emotions and breath. The Princess of the Night's brilliant vocal styling dances with agility among tonal constellations with an improvisational conception at the service of a narrative. Flowing naturally into this ocean are the vivid musical wellsprings of Billy Strayhorn, Olivier Messiaen, Ernesto Lecuona, Claude Debussy, Ettore Pozzoli, and Carlo Alberto Rossi reverberating their own light to Vanessa Tagliabue Yorke's sinuous original compositions to give the audience a powerful, intimate and refined concert.

Amaro Freitas Solo

  • Tuesday 26 March 2024 at 21:00 - 22:30

**Amaro Freitas** was born in Recife in Brazil, an area rich in culture and tradition that has profoundly impacted the prodigious young pianist, whose percussive approach to the instrument is clearly indebted to the north-eastern rhythms and the frenzy of the frevo and the baião. With the release of the album Sankofa his fame spread throughout the world through the acclaim of international critics, who praised his rhythmic-harmonic complexity and his ability to reconcile the most disparate elements in a kaleidoscope of completely personal expression. This is a characteristic that emerges even more in the solo dimension, which tends to free itself from existing forms to range transversally from reminiscences of Tatum's stride jazz to Satie's impressionism, from ancestral Africa to the percussive rarefactions of the prepared piano of Cage.

Boris Cevapcici

  • Tuesday 23 April 2024 at 21:00 - 22:30

Three of the musicians involved in this new musical project are the founders of the popular group Panaemiliana, which explored different musical traditions by combining Son Cubano with the musette waltz and folk music, bringing everything together into original compositions with a strong descriptive connotation. In a similar way, Boris Cevapcici uses a Latin-flavoured background as the foundation for a journey through various styles that range from singer-songwriting to tight montunos, using jazz as a glue.
With **Filippo Cassanelli**, double bass, **Danilo Mineo**, percussion, **Guglielmo Pagnozzi**, clarinet and alto sax, and **Paolo Prosperini**, guitar.
