Who’s on the stage? Invitation to the Theatre

Theatre workshop for adults 29 January – 19 March 2022

CUBO in Porta Europa Piazza Vieira de Mello, 3 e 5 - Bologna
29 Jan 2022 - 19 Mar 2022

An invitation to the Theatre to learn the ABCs of an art that is above all play, fun and shared emotions. Max Aub’s “Crimes Exemplaires” become the guiding text for addressing these themes: a series of monologues for confessing crimes ranging from brutal to fun, from surreal to dramatic. Starting from this reference text, we will talk about voice, body, text, character, direction and staging, entering the heart of the construction of that complex and wonderful “machine” called a theatrical show. A group experience for having fun, being moved and playing while disassembling and reassembling the rules of theatre.

In collaboration with Teatro dell’Argine

First art experiments

  • Saturday 29 January 2022 at 10:30 - 12:30

This is the first approach and we must firstly listen to each other and overcome the initial moment of embarrassment that one feels when embarking on an unprecedented experience. The tool of the "theatrical game”, with its rules, will help this first phase of the journey.

The script, the word becomes action

  • Saturday 5 February 2022 at 10:30 - 12:30

Max Aub's text "Crimes Exemplaires" provides us with a rich choice of situations and characters that lend themselves perfectly to be studied by the participants of a theatre course. For example, a toothpick becomes the pretext and the weapon for a crime...

Examining the character

  • Saturday 19 February 2022 at 10:30 - 12:30

A theatrical character experiences the situations written in the script, but does so through the body, voice and intentions of the actor. Learning to "build" the character, perhaps starting from one's own emotions, is the challenge of this session.

The scene, the importance of context

  • Saturday 26 February 2022 at 10:30 - 12:30

We are never alone on stage, we are in a space inhabited by other actors and inanimate objects. Being aware of this allows for more effective communication and requires coordination: this is the focus of this session.

Direction, the thin thread that binds everything together

  • Saturday 5 March 2022 at 10:30 - 12:30

The director is responsible for putting the various pieces seen so far in order. This is objective of this session that tries to close the circle, to give an account of how an orchestra of actors in a scene can play music in tune with each other.

The audience, the engagement with those watching us.

  • Saturday 19 March 2022 at 10:30 - 12:30

The conclusion of this journey is the provision of a shared work, of which all aspects have been tended to. The participants also become the audience of the staging, in an exchange full of surprises.
