Robot Olympics

Robot Construction and Design Workshop for youths 12 to 17 years old 3 March - 31 March 2023

CUBO in Torre Unipol Via Larga, 8 40138 - Bologna
03 Mar 2023 - 31 Mar 2023

Educational robotics makes it possible to develop logic and analysis skills, to learn to create with technology and to apply mathematical, logical and scientific notions in play and practice. We take advantage of Lego Mindstorm robots, a Lego kit with which it is possible to build multiple models and equip them with motors and sensors. We build and programme robots capable of performing certain operations autonomously, using the block programming language. Each participant can thus transfer commands and information quickly and intuitively to the robots.

100 Metres

  • Friday 3 March 2023 at 17:00 - 19:00

Introduction to robotics and the subject of the lessons: the Olympics. During the first event, the most common sport, running, will be discussed. The robot that will be built will have to travel a predefined distance, go around an obstacle and return to the starting line.

Obstacle Course

  • Friday 10 March 2023 at 17:00 - 19:00

Staying on the subject of running races, we will tackle an obstacle race using ultrasonic sensors to create a robot capable of avoiding obstacles on the race track.

Robobasket

  • Friday 17 March 2023 at 17:00 - 19:00

We change sports and move on to basketball. We will make a robot that moves randomly and build a basket to be mounted on it: making the most of their aim, each participant will try to make as many baskets as possible while the robot moves unpredictably.

Weightlifting

  • Friday 24 March 2023 at 17:00 - 19:00

From basketball, we move on to weightlifting. We will use ingenuity and multiple gear combinations to build a robot capable of lifting increasingly heavy weights, from the lightest to the heaviest, to find out who created the strongest robot.

Shot-putting

  • Friday 31 March 2023 at 17:00 - 19:00

Still in the area of weights, we'll tackle another athletic practice, shot-putting. We will focus on creating a mechanism to release weight in a very precise manner.
